Amazon Data Engineer II, Just Walk Out (JWO Tech) – AWS Applied AI Solutions
Description
As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions team, our vision is to leverage Amazon’s experience and expertise to build business applications that help millions of companies worldwide manage their day-to-day operations. Our goal is to accelerate customers’ businesses through intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve their long-term business challenges.
We combine Amazon’s curiosity and real-world experience to create turnkey solutions—where customers prefer to “buy” rather than “build.” In short, we become their trusted partner, providing them with simple, powerful, and easy-to-use tools.
The AWS Just Walk Out Tech (JWO Tech) organization is looking for a talented Data Engineer to join the team and design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures that power analytics for checkout-free shopping experiences.
In this role, you will work on both internal data and external retailer-facing reports, ensuring that data flows efficiently and reliably between every system.

- Implement automated data ingestion, transformation, and loading processes using modern tools and technologies.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across the complete data lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—such as Data Engineers, Researchers, Customer Success Managers, Software and ML Engineers, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers—to design robust data architectures that meet JWO’s business requirements.
- Evolve the data platform, defining governance policies and best practices to maintain data security, privacy, and compliance.
- Design and maintain efficient data models for analytical and operational use—keeping scalability and performance in mind.
- Implement monitoring and alerting systems to ensure data pipelines and infrastructure remain healthy and reliable.
- Identify and continuously optimize data-related issues and inefficiencies.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and promoting a knowledge-sharing culture.
- Maintain detailed documentation so that data architectures and pipelines can be easily maintained and transferred.
